Learn pupils to be pro active
Pro active pupils use their resourcefulness and initiative to
find solutions rather than just reporting problems or asking
others help to solve them.
We produced action guides in order to visualize the strategy.
Teachers must realize that children need time for a real
planning of their assignment before they start working.
Giving time for planning is not a waste of time but investing
in efficiency.

Contract assignment
"The Dalton Plan encourages self-help, but also allows for
the fullest co-operation. It developes a sense of dignity
and responsibility, and helps the child to appreciate the
value of time.
From a psychological point of view, the childs attitude
towards the contract assignment is very different to his
attitude towards ordinary school work on a fixed time table".
From: Report of a conference on The Dalton Plan, 1923
I always give the advice to see the assignment as a contract.
It means that children must have the chance to influence their
job themselves.

From the Ascham Newsletter
Ascham is the outstanding private Dalton school in Sydney.
... ”I reiterate that the Higher School Certificate is an internationally recognised credential that serves our students well. It has the desired mix of breadth and rigour that opens all doors in both the UK Oxbridge context, where specialisation is the key to entry, and also in the US Ivy League colleges and universities which appreciate more breadth.
This is confirmed by my recent visits to Oxford and Cambridge as well as our practical experience of preparing our girls for Harvard, Princeton and the like.
While we will continue to monitor the educational landscape we remain confident that our current curriculum delivered through the Dalton Plan and culminating in the HSC is the best education we can offer our girls at this time”.
