Training for Polish Dalton Consultants

I am invited to work with all Polish Dalton Consultants on the tuning of the Dalton implementation they give in schools.
Many schools in Poland like to know more about Dalton education.
This team of consultants is involved in a training process, mostly with an official Dalton certificate as a result.
In the coming period we come together to work out a new structure of modules.

Leaders eat last

Leaders are the ones who run headfirst into the unknown.
They rush toward danger.
They put their own interestsaside to protect us or to pull us into the future.
Leaders would sooner sacrifice what is theirs to save what is ours.
And they would never sacrifice what is ours to save what is theirs.
This is what it means to be a leader.
It means they choose to go first into danger, headfirst toward the unknown.
And when we feel sure they will keep us safe, we will march behind them and work tirelessly to see their visions come to life and proudly call ourselves their followers.

Are you a leader?

Creative schools

For me one of the most inspiring books of the last months is the latest book of Ken Robinson. He also wrote 'The Element'.

Today 'Creative Schools' came out as paperback.

From the cover:

"Ken Robinson is one of the world’s most influential voices in education, and his 2006 TED Talk on the subject is the most viewed in the organization’s history. Now, the internationally recognized leader on creativity and human potential focuses on one of the most critical issues of our time: how to transform the nation’s troubled educational system. At a time when standardized testing businesses are raking in huge profits, when many schools are struggling, and students and educators everywhere are suffering under the strain, Robinson points the way forward. He argues for an end to our outmoded industrial educational system and proposes a highly personalized, organic approach that draws on today’s unprecedented technological and professional resources to engage all students, develop their love of learning, and enable them to face the real challenges of the twenty-first century. Filled with anecdotes, observations and recommendations from professionals on the front line of transformative education, case histories, and groundbreaking research—and written with Robinson’s trademark wit and engaging style—Creative Schools will inspire teachers, parents, and policy makers alike to rethink the real nature and purpose of education".

International Dalton Conference May 5.2016

Of course this is a strange title for my lecture at the 20th Dalton Conference in Brno. We are already more than 15 years creating the future. The problem is that we decorated the schools with modern equipment, but still use the old methods of teaching.
The focus has to shift from teaching to learning, to motivate students to take responsibility for their own learning process.
With Marc Prenski I ask if it possible that digital immigrants can teach digital natives?

Claire Boonstra, keynote-speaker at Dutch Dalton Conference

"Do understand me very clearly – the education I had, including the good and the bad sides of it, is what shaped me, is what made me become me. But looking ahead at all the changes we are going to and the challenges we are facing as a society, as humanity and with our planet – I feel it is more than worthwhile for all future generations to seriously assess and change the

system we have created, and change it on a very fundamental level". (From 'The purpose of education')
